So, you've played your ranger for a while and believe it is time to embark on an epic quest! In this post I'll lay out the whole quest, including bits and pieces of information I personally picked up while doing it myself.

To start off, go find Telin Darkforest in Burning Woods. You'll find him by coming south out of the Skyfire zone, and at the first possible opportunity, turn west as the zone opens up. He's in the forest just to the west as you come out(loc positive 3238, positive 2856). Hail him and follow his dialogue, starting with you saying "What are you doing in this forest?".

You'll then follow his dialogue, giving these responses to him, in order after he speaks.

"What answers?"

"What evil?"

"What do you suspect?"

"Perhaps it is Innoruuk"

"What action should I take?"

After going through that back and forth dialogue, he will give you "Worn note".

(Some quest's, you can skip most of the dialogue and just say the last phrase to the NPC to get the result, I'm not sure if that is the case with Telin. My advice is just go through the whole dialogue. Also, I am told you can start the dialogue with him at level 46, but to actually complete the quest your ranger must be level 50, or your last turnin at the end will get eaten. Last, you may for one reason or another, not have enough faction with Telin for him to speak to you, and there are two main ways of remedying this. There is an NPC in Freeport you can turn tons of muffins into to raise your faction, or, you can just go and kill in crushbone for an hour or two. Frankly, the Crushbone idea is a lot less frustrating and time consuming, in my opinion)

Take the "worn note" from Telin, and go to the location "positive 1500, positive 500" in Greater Faydark. At that loc, there will be an orc pawn, which you want to kill over and over until "Faelin Bloodbriar" spawns. Give her the worn note. (She starts running the second she spawns, so you might have to get ahead of her to do the turnin as she runs by)

She gives you "Faelin's Ring". Once you have this ring, head to Kithicor Forest, to find Giz X'Tin, a dark elf who wanders along the path of the forest. The easiest way to find him is just track him when you zone in. When you give him the ring, he will give you "Dark Metal Coin", and a Teir'dal reaver will spawn, which you do not have to kill. You can either kill the reaver, or just run to a zone since you now have the coin from Giz.

Take the dark metal coin back to Telin in Burning Woods. He'll give you back "Worn Dark Metal Coin, and tell you to find Arch Druid Althele in the Karanas.

The next step is the first fight you have to do, it involves 3 level 55 mobs, a Dark Elf Corrupter and 2 Dark Elf reavers. Before you start the script, you should have your group set up on the top of the mountain in east karana, that is where the dark elves will spawn.

You'll find Althele in East Karana, near the waterline of the river between east and north Karana(loc negative 3656, negative 1595). She is standing with a halfling and wolf looking out over the river. Give her the Coin. She will give you back "Braided Grass Amulet" and tell you to find Sionae, who will show up on track after you do the turnin to althele.

Find Sionae and give her the amulet. She will give you back "frayed Braided Grass Amulet, and tell you to give it to Nuien. Track him and give him the amulet next. He will give it back and tell you to find Teloa.

Teloa has now spawned near the waterfall at the south end of the river and will be on track. Give the amulet to Teloa.

Teloa tells you to follow her to the gathering, and will begin to walk back to where you first found althele. All the druids you have just spawned will be there. Teloa is slow, but stay with her, and when you get the gathering, wait there while althele talks. After a bit, Althele will say to you that Innoruuk's brood is upon them. At this piont the dark elves have spawned, and you can leave the druids to go help kill them.

Kill the Corrupter first then the Reavers. The corrupter drops "Fleshbound Tome". Loot this, and turn it back into Althele. (You only HAVE to kill the corrupter. If you don't kill the reavers however, they will go kill the druids, and then you have to wait an hour to turn the Tome into Althele. It's better to just kill all 3 dark elves and then althele will still be up.) Althele will give you "Earth Stained Note".

Take the Earth Stained Note to Ella Foodcrafter, a jovial halfling lass that you will find wandering the path in Misty Thicket. Hail her to stop her walking, then give her the note. This will start a dialogue between you and her, and again, you must follow it giving the correct responses, which I'll list here in order.

"What two things?"

"What is the second task?"

During that dialogue, she will hand you "Shiny Tin Bowl", and tell you she needs a mixture of foraged items, mixed in the bowl she gave you, and I'll list the foraged items next. She also tells you she needs you to craft an ancient type of bowl. These two tasks are the next steps in your quest.

You need for forage 4 no drop items. Chilled Tundra Root, which is foraged in Everfrost. Ripened Heartfruit, which is foraged in Greater Faydark. Speckled Molded Mushroom, foraged in Innothule Swamp. Last, Sweetened Mudroot, in Misty Thicket. Foraging thiese may take some time, depending on your foraging skill. The higher your skill, the better chance of getting this done quick. All 4 are no drop and lore, so you have to forage your own.

Combine the 4 items in the shiny bowl to make "Hardened Mixture". Hold onto the Mixture.

Next, head to Timorous Deep, and find Alrik Farsight. You'll find him at the Chessboard there(neg 6335, pos 2785 is the loc of the chessboard and he seems to wander all around the island it's on. It's not a big island, so he shoudln't be too hard to find). Tell him "I seek an ancient type of bowl made by the elves of old", and follow his dialogue with "I will take the artifact". He will give you "crushed pot", and tell you to take it to Farios Elianos in Southern Felwithe(loc positive 375, negative 846).

Give Farios the pot, and he doesn't like it very much, but says if you'll do is grocerys for him he'll give you a reciept for the pot to take back to Alrik. He gives you "Grocery List", to take to Merchant Nora(loc positive 144, negative 412, in northern felwithe). Give her the list, and she will give you "Bag of Provisions" to take back to Farios. Take the bag to Farios, and he will give you a "Reciept", to take back to Alrik in Timorous Deep.

Give Alrik the reciept, and recieve "Ancient Pattern". For now, just hang onto the pattern.

Next, head to Firona Vie and forage a "Rose of Firona". It is a fairly common forage there and shouldn't take long. Head to Surefall Glade and hail Merdan Fleetfoot(loc positive 245, negative 65), and after he responds, ask him "who is niera?", then hand him the rose. He will give you back a "wood painting".

Next, head to Frontier Mountains, and track down "a human skeleton". The skelly wanders, so he could be anywhere in the zone. Hand him the painting, and he will poof, and you are given "silver chained locket". Head back to Surefall Glade, find Neara Farbreeze(loc positive 105, negative 192 is where I found her, may wander), who you spoke to Merdan about, and give her the locket. She will in return give you back "platinum speckled powder".

At this point it is about time for your next fight. Head to Kaladim and find Kinlo Strongarm(loc positive 350, negative 178. He's on the bottom floot of a building just left of the east zonein to north Kaladim from south Kaladim). Ask him "what mud?", and he will tell you about a clay, but he doesn't want to dig it up for you. Tell him "do it for me". He says he will, but he wants something in return, a shiny axe.

Head to the City of Mist, and in the Castle in the center of the zone, there are creatures called "Black Reavers". You will probably need a rogue to open to the castle door, and to operate the elevator to get to 3 of the reavers. Your goal is to kill these and get a "jade reaver" to drop, to give to Kilno. The black reavers are level 50ish mobs, and they blind. Also, when you kill one, there is a chance for either another reaver to spawn where it died, or a ghost. If the ghost spawns, kill it and nothing else will. If another reaver spawns, kill it and the chance of respawn repeats. This way, you never know how many reavers you'll kill out of one actual spawned mob, and consequently, how many Jade Reavers you might pick up. The Jade Reaver is also droppable, so can be traded or bought.

Take the Jade Reaver back to Kilno in Kaladim. He will give you "enchanted clay" in return for the reaver.

Combine the Ancient Pattern, Platinum Speckled Powder, and Enchanted Clay in a pottery Wheel to make a "Runecrested Bowl". This is the ancient bowl Ella asked you to make.

Return to Misty Thicket with your tradeskilled creators, the mixture and bowl, and give them to ella foodcrafter. She will hand back to you "softly glowing stone".

Head to Firiona Vie, and find Foloal Stormforest(loc positive 51, negative 3278. This loc is in a small alcove of good faction NPCs through a tunnel in the east zone wall of FV). Say "are you one such as myself?" to her to start the dialogue. Follow the text, responding with "what answers?" and "what about Venril Sathir?". foloal tells you to kill Venril Sathir, and bring back a stone that drops off of him, and the stone Ella gave you.

What you actually have to find in Karnor's Castle, is not Venril Sathir, but Venril Sathir's Remains. The remains spawn after Sathir is killed. When you go, take the level 47 cleric spell "resurrection", the 90% rez, with you, and summon a Firefly Globe, which any ranger can summon. The remains will be indifferent to all at first. Hand him the firefly globe and he will change from a skeleton into a ghost, then hand him the rez spell and he will spawn as Venril Sathir, and attack you. Kill this version of Venril Sathir, and loot "Pulsing Green Stone". (He drops two stones every kill, so you can have another druid or ranger loot the other one, then they won't have to come back to kill him later. Also, the remains verison of Venril Sathir is not as hard as the regular version, and at this point is one groupable by some players. If you have noone over level 60 in your group, you might want to take 2 groups just in case)

Take the softly glowing stone and pulsing green stone back to foloal in FV, and give both to her. She will give you back "Warmly Glowing Stone". Take this stone back to Telin in Burning Wooods. He will in return give you an "Ancient Longsword".

Head back to Kaladim and speak to Kinlo, and ask him "what ancient?", then as he answers, say to him,

"what few tales?"
"what hammers?"
"what erudite necromancer?"
"what erudite enchanter?"

He will tell you a story about hammers with souls placed in them, and if you want to know more, you have to head to Odus.

Head to the hole, and track down Jaeil the Wretched(loc positive 236, positive 876). Take at least a group for this, as he is very far in, and you will need to fight in. When you find him, he will be by a pool in a tunnel. Walk up to him and hand him the shiny tin bowl you made the harden mixture in. He will depop and respawn as jaeil the insane, and attack you. Kill him and loot "Soulbound hammer"

Take the hammer back to Kinlo and give it to him. He will give it back to you, and tell you there is a soul sitll inside.

Head to find Mairee Silentone in Erudin(loc positive 760, positive 557, in Erudin Palace. You'll need to go down a floor from the zonein from Erudin City, to get to the floor she is on). Ask her "what ancient hammer?", then hand her the soulbound hammer. She will hand you back "Dwarven Smiths Hammer" and tell you to get a Swirlling Sphere of Color" from the plane of Air, and to bring both back to her.

What you need to do in the Plane of Air is make your way to island 5, and kill "An Essese Tamer" and loot the sphere. More than one of these spawn, so there is a good chance your group or raid will get more than one sphere while you are there.

Take both the sphere and the hammer back to mairee and give them to her.

She will hand you back "Hammer of the Ancients", and tell you to take it back to Kinlo.

Return to Kinlo and give him the hammer, and Usbak the Old will spawn, and give you a "small bit of mithril ore". Hail old Usbak, and give him the Anicent Longsword you got from Telin, and you will get back "Refined Ancient Longsword", and depops. Give the small bit of mithril ore to kinlo, and he will make the "refined Mithril Blade" out of it for you.

Head back to BW, and give the Refined Ancient Sword to Telin. He will return it to you, and Faelin Bloodbriar spawns standing next to him. Give the Refined Ancient Sword to her. She will hand back Swiftwind.

Congratulations, you are now the owner of the first half of your epic, and are only one fight away from being complete.

You now have to head to the Plane of Hate and loot the Shattered Emerald of Corruption. It drops off most of the mini nameds all around Hate, and no longer drops off Innoruuk himself to my knowledge. Kill in hate until you spawn the mininameds, and loot the Emerald. There are 3 or 4 mininameds that drop it that spawn near the zonein, it's just sit and kill camp until they spawn.

Take the Emerald and the Refined Mithril Blade to Xanuusus in North Karana. Hand them both to him, and you will recieve Earthcaller as your reward.

Congratulations, you have completed your epic 1.0 quest!

The dark elf corrupter and his cohorts are level 45, not 55. They were all DB cons to Boidarc when she tried to do this part of the quest at level 51. Unfortunately, the corrupter poofed even though Boidarc engaged him first. I have been reluctant to ask anyone to help me get this drop again until this is fixed or explained.

I believe the Corrupter is either 45 or 55, and the Reavers are the lvl the corrupter aren't. I remember kiting these.

For them who have any questions about them (techniques, methods etc).

Start rooting the two reavers and snare them afterwards. Then focus on the Corrupter. Snare, Root, DoT him and just shoot arrows. The reavers will might get out of the serpent roots, then just run in circles or root - if u got KEI or VoQ. Easy mobs, but if you have them out of controle they can be a little tricky, just keep em snared, thats all!

I am almost certain that I once headshot a Reaver, meaning it would be 49 or lower.

This strikes me as very odd, because I could have sworn that the corrupter at least is a dark blue con to me at level 70, hence why I said he's level 55. I may just be remembering him being dark blue at 65 and not 70. I'll actually see if I can find someone doing this fight to verify what he cons to me and come back and update this.

Can a 70 ranger (200+ AAs, full avoidance) solo in PoHate to get the SEOC? If not, what do you see as the minimum group to successfully hunt there? As you can imagine, it's not all that east getting folks to head up to Hate for what is otherwise not terribly useful loot.

Should be doable, especially if you bring potions.

I think it would depend on your gear really. If your decently geared, it shouldn't be a problem to solo. If your lacking gearwise, take a shammy or maybe an enchie with ya and it should be gravy. I forget if stuff there summons, but if not you could always use the ole root/bow solo method.

Just remember certain mobs are annoying. The Spite Golems resist most of our spells -- the DoN chromatic snare may be the one exception. The ashenbone drakes resist 100% of alls pells cast outside of melee range, but are not immune within it. The DE models will tash you and take your KEI away.

PoHate is very soloable. I was soloing there at 65 with probablly as many if not less AA's than you have.

The mobs don't summon so if soloing with melee doesn't work you can always root, back up and then shoot them.

Most of the mobs you'll see are LB at 70, don't hit very fast or hard, so even meleeing shouldn't be a problem unless you get too many adds. For the most part adds in the zone aren't all that common except for on a few pulls.

The clerics in this zone suck. They CH themsleves and can take forever to kill sometimes. =/

The tier 1 ones don't that I've noticed. Maybe they do but I don't think so.

Root and shoot is still an option on summoning mobs, though. I've done it plenty of times.

I popped up solo, cleared the placeholders, and waited for respawns. Two guildies (cleric and mage) indicated they had some time to help, so they ported up and I went back to the port-in and got'em. We returned to the spawn spot for Lord of Ire, who had in fact spawned Shocked . Killed one trash mob, killed the Lord of Ire, and... he dropped my SEOC. Very Happy

In and out, 22 minutes. Insanely easy. I know, I'm lucky I'm doing this today; I know Sony seriously upped the drop rate on the SEOC. I'll take it, though.

Onwards to Epic 1.5!
